How to Make Unicorn Toilet Roll Craft

Now you know what supplies you’ll need for this project. So, go ahead and grab them. Here’s a complete step-by-step tutorial for you to help you make your very own DIY Unicorn toilet roll craft.

Step 1

The first order of business would be to grab your ruler and marker. You will need to measure and mark the dimensions of the toilet roll on your paper of choice.

Remember to roll the toilet roll up the length of the paper to mark the entire circumference. Use the marker to mark out the dimensions.

Step 2

Grab a pair of scissors and carefully cut your paper along the measurements. It is a great opportunity for your kids to learn how to cut paper, under your supervision, of course!

Step 3

The next step is to glue the paper around the toilet paper roll. Alternatively, you can use other adhesives like sticky tape or even double-sided tape.

Make sure you wrap the paper around the roll carefully; pay heed to any possible creases along the edges.

Here’s a quick tip: you can roll your paper beforehand—without making any indents or pressing down on it. This will make it easier for you to stick the paper to the roll without worrying about creases.

Step 4

Grab your yarn(s) of choice and fold them several times to get the desired length. Cut off the tail when you’re satisfied.

If you’re using different colors of yarn, place them over each other. Then, you can tie them together in place with another bit of yarn.

Cut off the looped ends, making sure to cut all the edges evenly. Go ahead and make your tail and mane in this manner!

Step 5

It’s time to cut out your unicorn’s ears. Using a pencil, draw the pattern on the paper—preferably white for the inner ear and pink for the outer—and cut out the shapes.

Step 6

Glue the pieces together. Once you’ve allowed them to dry completely, stick the ears onto the rim of your toilet roll.

Step 7

It’s time to attach the mane and the tail! Go ahead and secure the man into a ponytail-like cascade at the top end.

Here’s an optional tip: if you cut out a little triangle on the back of the toilet roll, you can loop your tail through it.

This is probably my favorite part of the process: embellishing and decorating your already fabulous unicorn!

Go crazy with the glitter; let your creativity take you and your unicorn where you both need to go!

Step 9

Let’s not forget the infamous unicorn horn, of course! First, cut a small piece of paper into a triangle.

Grabbing one of the longer ends, start rolling the triangle inward until you get a nice big horn with a pointy tip, like you see below.

Carefully secure the horn in place inside the toilet roll with glue or tape. Don’t forget, you can bedazzle the horn with little gems, rhinestones and glitter!

Step 10

The final step is to draw a long and lush sweep of curly black lashes and eyes for your gorgeous unicorn. A black or purple marker should do the trick!
