How to Make Coffee Filter Dancers
Step 1. Make a small stack with your two coffee filters. Flatten them out.
Step 2. Get your markers and be ready to get creative! This is where you can have fun decorating your dancers in any way you want.
Step 3. Here is another example of how to decorate your dancers. There are so many ways to make them unique and beautiful.
Step 4. Here is another pattern and color example.
Step 5. Cover your decorated coffee filters with water and wait for them to dry. If you let them air dry, this will take about 2-3 hours.
You can also let them dry in sunlight, which should take 30 minutes or so. If you want, you could put them in the oven at 130° F for 20 minutes.
Step 6. Make your dancer’s body by folding a pipe cleaner in half. The bent part will be the head, while the two dangling ends will be the legs.
Step 7. Get your other pipe cleaner and begin wrapping it around the first pipe cleaner in an upwards direction.
Step 8. Keep wrapping the pipe cleaner around the body a few times until you have a smaller portion of pipe cleaner left.
Step 9. This smaller portion of pipe cleaner will be one of the arms.
Step 10. Now, do the same thing with the other end of the pipe cleaner to create the other arm. The arms should be relatively symmetrical.
Step 11. Now, back to the coffee filters! Separate the two dried filters.
Step 12. Take one of the filters and fold it in half.
Step 13. Fold it in half two more times. You should have a triangle shape.
Step 14. Cut the pointed end of your triangle off.
Step 15. Be careful not to make the cut too big. This will be a hole for the head of your dancer, so you don’t want to make it too large.
Unfold your filter into a semicircle shape (not all the way open).
Step 16. Make two small cuts at the bottom of your filter on either side of the hole you made for the head.
Step 17. Open your filter up all the way. Get your dancer’s body (your pipe cleaners) and fit the arms into the small slits you have made.
Step 18. Now, pull the head of your dancer through the hole. It is really coming together!
Step 19. Put your elastic band over your dancer’s head and arms so that it is positioned right at the top of the dress. Wrap it around a few times to ensure a secure fit.
Step 20. Take your second paper filter and repeat steps 12, 13, and 14. Fold the filter in half three times so that you have a triangle.
Cut the pointed end off to form a hole.
Step 21. Pull your dancers legs through the hole so that both filters are on your dancer. You can bend the legs to create feet if you would like.
Step 22. Your adorable dancer is complete! Enjoy!
