This DIY squishy soap is the perfect project for kids and adults. These turn out absolutely adorable and will give you that extra incentive to stay on top of washing your hands.
It is cold and flu season, otherwise known as hand-washing season! I find myself constantly reminding my kids (and sometimes myself) to keep those germs at bay by regularly washing my hands.
If you are experiencing the same thing this winter, you will love this DIY squishy soap project.
Making soap is one of my favorite crafts because it is super fun, creative, customizable, and leaves you with a super useful product.

Supplies You’ll Need
- Cornstarch
- Sweet almond oil*
- Thick liquid soap
- Food colouring*
- Bowl
- Teaspoon
*powder or liquid
*avocado oil works as well, i haven’t tried other alternatives
How to Make DIY Squishy Soap
Step 1. First, add ¾ of a cup of cornstarch to your bowl.
Step 2. Then, add in 4 teaspoons of your sweet almond oil.
Step 3. Now, pour in ¼ of a cup of your thick liquid soap to the bowl.
Step 4. Next, add in a little bit of food coloring. Try to add just a little bit.
You can tell from the picture that I added too much.
Step 5. Now, it’s time to stir your mixture! Be sure to stir everything together well with your spoon.
If the dough looks too stretchy, you can add more cornstarch. If it is too hard, more soap will help to soften it up.
Step 6. Next, use your hands to knead the dough. The consistency should be soft and squishy.
Step 7. Your soap is ready! To use it for handwashing, you can use the whole soap by rolling it in your wet hands as you would with a bar of soap.
Step 8. Alternatively, you can break off a tiny piece of the squishy soap and use that to wash your hands.
Step 9. If you are interested in making marble soap, you can easily do this with two colors of squishy soap.
Step 10. For marble soap, you can follow all the steps as listed and then combine two squishy balls of dough once they have been kneaded.
Important Notes:
- You can store your soap in an airtight container or in a soap dish.
- Once your dough is kneaded and soft, you can form it into any shape you would like. It will keep this shape once dry.
How Long Does This DIY Squishy Soap Take to Make?
This project is super fun and fast! You should be able to make your own squishy soap in about 10-15 minutes.
I think these would make good gifts, stocking stuffers, or party favors. If you agree, you can spend a weekend afternoon and easily make a bunch to give away!
