I love any crafts involving flowers, don’t you? This DIY hand flower is a sweet, beautiful, and simple craft project.

They always turn out so pretty, and I love that everyone can customize them by choosing whatever colors they want!

I also like crafts that use hand-tracing because these are so personal and make such lovely keepsakes.

These would make great gifts and can easily be glued on top of wrapped presents or even glued to cardstock and then framed.

If you are making these with small children, be sure to help them with the cutting. You will love creating these quick and lovely flowers!

How to Make DIY Hand Flower

Step 1. Begin by grabbing your pencil and tracing your hand (or your child’s hand). If you are doing this with a child, you can trace their hand, and they can trace yours if you would like.

You might want to make a full bouquet of hand flowers. If so, trace your hand several times.

Step 2. Cut out your traced hands. Be sure to supervise children carefully during this step and help them if necessary.

Step 3. This is when you get to be super creative because it’s time to decorate your hand flowers! Create whatever designs and patterns you would like, using a combination of bright, vibrant colors.

I have used markers to decorate my flowers, but you can use whatever you want. Glitter, stickers, scrap fabric, dot pens, pretty paint, pom poms—truly anything goes here!

The possibilities are endless, so have fun making your flowers look pretty!

Step 4. Once your hand flower is decorated the way you’d like, you can start making your stem. Let’s get started by grabbing our 8.5” x 2” green construction paper.

Place some glue on the paper.

Step 5. Now, take your barbecue stick and place it at one corner of your construction paper like in the picture. Begin rolling that corner diagonally upward.

It should start forming a long, thin tube. Using thin paper for this makes it easier to roll.

Step 6. When you are done rolling, you should have a long thin tube, which will serve as your stem.

Step 7. Get your pencil again and draw two leaves onto your other piece of green construction paper. Cut your leaves out.

Step 8. Glue your leaves onto your stem.

Step 9. Flip your hand flower over and glue your stem to the back. I have used craft glue, which worked great. A hot glue gun would also work, of course!

Step 10. You are all done! Repeat to make additional flowers and enjoy your floral craft!

Who Should Make These?

Anyone can make these flowers, but they are a particularly good project for children. Your kids will love expressing their creativity by decorating their hand flowers however they want.

This is an easy enough project for older kids to do on their own. Younger ones can do much of it on their own as well but might need some help with the tracing and cutting parts of the craft.

These would make an amazing Mother’s Day present or birthday gift for a parent, grandparent, or other loved one.

I adore any craft that uses those tiny handprints or traced hands because we all know how quickly kiddos grow up!

You could help your child make several of these and turn them into a beautiful bouquet. This is a gift that kids will enjoy making and loved ones will cherish forever.
