Do your kids love squishy toys? Squishy toys are some of my kid’s favorite things— we have more than one basket of squishies in our playroom just like these DIY squishy donuts.

My children have a blast playing with them and are always eager to add more to their collection.

How to Make DIY Squishy Donuts

Step 1. Let’s get started by cutting the foam into a circle shape.

Step 2. Take your time to make it perfectly round, removing any harsh or jagged edges for a nice smooth, circle. This requires a little bit of patience, but it is well worth it.

Step 3. Now, cut a hole in the middle of your circle to make the foam piece look like a donut.

Step 4. Again, take your time to make sure that your hole is nice, smooth, and round.

Step 5. Now, paint your donut with light brown acrylic paint. The top of the donut will be painted and decorated, but this brown paint will be visible on the bottom.

That light brown color will make it look like a donut.

Step 6. Keep painting until you have colored the whole donut.

Step 7. Now, get some more acrylic paint for the top of the donut. It is important to use the acrylic paint as a base to avoid having the puffy paint sink into the foam.

I have mixed red and white acrylic paint together to make that beautiful, yummy pink color.

You will now need to let your donut dry. This will take a few hours.

You can speed up the drying process by using a hair dryer, which should take about 30 minutes.

Step 8. Now, it’s time for the puffy paint! Make your frosting using pink puffy paint and add a thick layer to the top of your donut.

Let your donut dry overnight. You can also use a hair dryer for this step if you prefer, which should take about 40 minutes or so depending on the thickness of your layer.

This donut squishy does not require a ton of active crafting time. However, since it requires multiple layers of paint, you will need to factor in drying time.
